NATS 2.0 – National Apprenticeship And Training Scheme

NATS 2.0 portal launched and releaed Rs 100 Crore a stipend through DBT(Direct Benefit Transfer) on 30 July, 2024.

Six decades ago, On recommendations of Scientific Manpower Committee, the then Ministry Of Education, Government of India initiated ‘Practical Training Stipendiary Scheme’ with the objective of providing practical training to the fresh Engineering graduates and Diploma holders as an attempt to bridgen the gap between curriculum studies and skillset demands of the industries.

The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme under the provisions of the Apprenticeship Act, 1961, amended in 1973. In 1969, four regional Boards Of Apprenticeship/Practicle Training (BA/PT) are established at Chennai, Kanpur, Mumbai and Kolkata as autonomous bodies and provided them responsibilities of their respective regions.

What Is The NATS 2.0 ?

It is an initiative by the Government of India to boost employability, to harness country’s demographic dividend and make youth future ready by providing them oppurtunities to develop technical competency through apprenticeship programmes.

Portal NATS 2.0 is an integration of four stakeholders- Board Of Regional Apprenticeship Training(BOAT), Educational Institutions, Students and Establishments/Organizations, where demands and requirements of students and establishments meet up.

Why Apprenticeship Needed ?

Apprenticeship is developing and enhancing industrial-demand-skills under the guidance of experienced mentors. It is getting practical experiences on latest applications, processes and methodologies in respective fields of works. It also incorporates learning of soft skills, work culture, ethics and organizational behaviour, which are helpful for entire period of the careers.

It Is For Whom ?/ Who Can Apply ?

According to the NATS – students of Graduates, Diploma and Vocationa Certificate holders should apply within 3.3 years of passing out.

Graduate students or students passing graduate, Graduate Sandwich, Technician, Technician Sandwich, Technician Vocational.

Disciplines Include :

Technical, Engineering, Commerce, Arts, Humanities, Management domains.

Where Can Students Get Apprenticeships ?

Students get skilling opportunities with renowned organizations of India from public( Central Government and State Governments) and private sectors for 6 months to 1 year with guaranteed monthly stipend.

Is It Part Of National Education Policy(NEP) 2020 ?

Yes, it is in the alignment with National Education Policy 2020 as NEP aims to mainstream vocational education and remove barriers between different education streams. Also, UGC and AICTE have issued guidlines for Apprenticeship Embeded Degree Programmes(AEDP).

How Can A Student Apply For Apprenticeship ?

What Happens After Completion Of Apprenticeship ?

After the completion of apprenticeship, Certificate Of Proficiency will be issued by Government of India, which will serve as experience certificate at the time of recruitment by any organization across the country.

  • Establishments registered on NATS 2.0 have dedicated training managers, comprehensive training modules and training facilities.
  • Government of India and apprenticeship provider organizations will pay the 50%-50 % amount of the stipend.

FAQs

Does apprenticeship guarantee a job?

No. It does not guarantee a job but as apprentice has hands-on experiences of industrial skills and have Cerificate Of Proficiency provided by the Government of India, chances of getting recruited in the fields of their works are high.
