What Is NPTEL ?
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning is an educational project by Ministry Of Education, initiated by seven Indian Institutes Of Technology( IIT- Bombay,Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute Of Science(IISc) Banglore for creating course contents on engineering and science streams, started in 2003.
Under this project nptel.ac.in a platform which provides web and video cources of engineering, science, management and humanities streams by professors from IITs and others.
It began certification course in 2014. To qualify for certificate, one has to pay nominal fee to appear in the exam(optional) at the end of the free-enrolled courses.
Engineering and science courses are of the graduate and postgraduate levels, management courses are of postgraduate level.
Vision Of The NPTEL
Aim of the initiative is to
- make the free-quality education reach every corner of the country.
- have equality in quality education to develop students employable with the skill sets of the industries of respective fields of works.
- make available the quality education to any learner who wants to hone their technical and non-technical skills.
Beneficiary Of NPTEL
- Anyone/student who wants to get quality knowledge of any topic or subjects of engineering, science, medical and humanities streams.
- Any student/job seeker from above said streams who want to make him/her-self more employable.
- Any learner, from anywhere, at any stage of their student life or career, at any age, who wants to sharpen skills on their respective subjects or streams.

Translation
For deepre penetration of the top quality higher education, NPTEL has made available translations of the courses in 11 languages out of 22 scheduled languages of India and they are :
Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.
Translations are available on SWAYAM site and NPTEL site as PDF transcripts, e-book, subtitles below videos, scrolling text below videos and in some cases audio files.
